Notre escale à Tenerife est avant tout une escale technique…Thierry continue à bricoler (montage de notre super antenne WIFI de MAXONDES, changement du robinet WC, vidange moteur etc...) et de mon côté je fais des diverses courses, lessives et rangement du bateau...il faut bien trouver la place pour toutes les provisions car en Gambie nous n’achèterons que du frais et du poisson, le reste étant importé et de coup assez cher.
Ici à Santa Cruz nous nous sommes fait vacciner contre la fièvre jaune et avons procuré un stock de Malarone contre le malaria/le paludisme. Les copains de ponton, Edi et Almuth, nous ont donné de bons conseils pour naviguer sur le fleuve et notre voisin Yves nous a fait découvrir l’application de navigation NAVIONICS qui est génial. Merci Yves! A la marina nous avons rencontré des navigateurs de tout gendre…un jeune couple françaisqui a écrit un livre délicieux, « En attendant l’équipier », des turcs, Selim et Ilkay, d’une gentillesse débordant et même une « bateau-stopper » Zélia de Montpellier qui cherchait (et a trouvé!) un bateau pour le Brésil. C’est un lieu de rencontre exceptionnelle.
Ca y’est, nous sommes prêts pour la traversée vers la Gambie….une navigation de 9-10 jours si tout va bien.

Our stopover in Tenerife is first and foremost a technical stopover…Thierry is still playing the handyman (mounting our super-duper WIFI antenna by MAXONDE, changing a bathroom faucet, doing an engine oil-change etc…) while I’m running different errands, doing laundry and organizing the boat…have to be creative and methodic to store all our provisions! In the Gambia we will only by fresh produce and fish for the reste is imported and rather expensive.
Here in Santa Cruz, we were vaccinated against yellow fever and stocked up on Malarone, an anti-malaria medicine. Our pontoon friends, Edi and Almuth, shared precious advice for sailing the Gambia and our neighbor Yves got us set up with the navigational app NAVIONICS which is just fantastic. Thanks Yves! At the marina we have met all kinds of sailors…a young French couple who wrote a delightful book « En attendant l’équipier », Selim and Ilkay, some Turks who were incredibly kind to us and even a « boat-hitchhiker » Zélia, from Montpellier who found a boat for Brazil in no time at all. It’s an incredible meeting place with a definite solidarity spirit.
Well we’re now ready for the crossing to The Gambia…if all goes well it should be a 9-10 day sail. See you soon !
