A 3-day trip up the Amazon (from Belém to Santarém) on a local ferry or « river-bus » was an amazing way to get a glimpse of life on the river...Although there are a few cabins, most 300 or so passengers, from babies to the elderly sleep in hamacs. The laidback open atmosphere with close sleeping quarters encourages everyone to naturally converse and pass the time, observing the different activities of life on this incredible maze of endless water arteries...
